On my mind this morning...

Sometimes, I debate with myself over what content is appropriate for this 'blog. Some readers I know better than others, and some readers I barely know at all. Some readers are behind corporate firewalls (as is the author, usually). So sometimes, although something is on my mind, I shy away from blogging it. This morning, though, I just kept coming back to a couple of thoughts, so I figure if I get them out of my fingers maybe my mind can move on.

I've been pondering that, maybe, if we (as citizens of Western culture) had been doing the "right thing" all along, and been balancing our excessive collective wealth by providing support and sustenance for the citizens of the Middle Eastern cultures we now oppose, would there be the intense hatred of us we now witness? Even in our response, we are generous to ourselves, and encourage each other to go out and spend to prop up our economy as "patriotic acts," whilst granting financial relief only as a carrot to encourage support in our battles. (Not that I'm any better about this type of external generosity — this is merely an observation — and I realize this is all subjective, especially in the use of the term "right thing.") In some way, then, terrorism seems to me to be an outgrowth of the actions of society over time, left to run unchecked into a developing entropy.

The other thing that occurs to me is how likely it is that the current situation (call it war if you will) will outlast my lifetime.
