H'ween Stuff

Bj wrote something that reminded me of my Halloween-Christmas-Mall connection this morning. I spent Halloween nights in 1993 & 1994 in the mall, listening to Christmas music and installing Christmas decorations for The Disney Store. The first year, it was just odd; the second, in a new store, it was my attempt to establish a tradition. In those days, we still lived with the mythology that Disney magically transformed all the Parks & Resorts into Christmas mode overnight, and we were determined to have the same effect. Like I said, odd, and yet fun at the same time.

Of course, Halloween 1995 I was working in Florida, at a shop that had just suffered through The Summer of Pocahontas Merchandise That Won't Go Away, so we transformed into an all-Holiday shop by mid-October, and remained so until sometime around spring thaw. If I never hear or see that little toy chest-slash-Character xylophone that plays Christmas carols ad nasuem ever again, I just might die a happy man.
