Totally Techie Complaint
My iMac has 2 USB ports on the computer. For the power button on the keyboard to work, it needs to be connected to one of those ports. (The keyboard has a pass-through port for the mouse, and a second pass-through for a USB device with no bus power requirements.) This leaves me with 1 open USB port — pretty standard setup — to which I have connected a powered USB hub.
Reading some of the tech support info for some of my USB peripherals, though, I find that at least 3 of them recommend being connected directly to the machine and not to a hub (my iSub subwoofer, my PalmConnect adapter, and my APC UPS). I can't say I've found any Macintosh computer with more than 3 built-in ports (that being the new iMac), and yet manufacturers of these Mac-specific products think I'm supposed to have 4?
