"What's That Buzzing Sound?"
Yesterday, I did my normal routine: Leave work, go to the gym, go home. When I was getting ready to leave the gym, though, I noticed I had a voicemail on my phone. It was Dan, providing me with his available dates in February to go see Quidam in Miami. So, next step was to call Bj and see if she, too, was available. Once I got home, I proceeded to buy the tickets online (and carry on a cell-phone conversation with Bj and a land-line conversation with Dan), occasionally hearing an odd buzzing sound from somewhere in the desk-area. I probably would have looked harder if minor trauma had not ensued: the confirmation email (with printable tickets!) did not arrive from admission.com as expected. (Side note: This has been resolved; for some reason emails they send to Earthlink addresses always bounce.)
This morning, I came in to work and the area support person asked if I got her page last evening. Sheepishly I look down at my alpha pager and find it has been dutifully vibrating every few minutes since roughly 5:30 last night — the same time I started my workout at the gym — trying to get this message to me. My normal post-workout routine is check the cell phone, then check the pager, but since I actually had voicemail, I never returned to the pager last night. I've decided that 5 years of pager-wearing must have numbed that part of my hip, since I didn't even notice it after putting the pager on this morning.
