If Time Flies When You're Having Fun...
I've placed "significant work/life events" as recurring appointments in my calendar, just so I don't forget. Looking ahead this week, I see on Thursday: Hurricane Erin Ride-Out, Epcot, Overnight. I was part of a crew that spent that night at the Park to do tie-down before, and clean-up afterward. I remember sleeping on the exhibit floor at "The Living Seas" and eating box lunches from the restaurant there. But when I looked at the appointment again, I noticed the year: 1995, seven years ago. That can't be right...? Sure enough, and this documents it; Erin had landfall early the morning of August 2, 1995, so we would have stayed over the night before.
All the other pieces fall into place, too: I was still in my first year with Disney, and that would be evidenced by the hire date (March 18, 1995) printed on the ID I wear every day, meaning I've worked here 7 years.
I was still living out by UCF at the time, because I remember the drive home from that shift, and hoping the rainwater didn't climb any further up the building. But that means I was still rooming with Rai, and not in my own place yet. Which means I hadn't met Dan yet, either.
But lately we've been telling people we've been together over 7 years.
That would mean we met in 1994.
I didn't live here in October 1994; I moved here in November.
Well, um, what's a year between friends, right?
Oops.
