More Advertisers Unclear On The Concept
Recently posted by my house: a new billboard advertising yet another new subdivision in my area. (I've lived there for over two years now, I get to complain about all these new housing upstarts.) "Ahead 11 miles to Clermont," the ad proclaims, "then south on Hwy 27." Problem is, you are headed north on US 27 when you read this. At least they got the mileage right, but do I really need to go all the way and do a U-turn, or could I just go a few less miles in the first place?
Similarly confused is a new billboard on southbound US 27, for a new Sam's Club, "located between Mile Markers 13 and 14." There are no Mile Markers on US 27. If there were, you'd have a long drive, because US 27 ends in downtown Miami, placing Mile Marker 13 roughly 300 miles south of the billboard. There are Mile Markers on US 192, between milepost 4 and milepost 15. Perhaps that's what they mean, but I can't recall the last time I heard a local refer to the Mile Markers, and I can't recall the last time I or any of my neighbors went further than Mile Marker 8. Sam's is clearly in the tourist-sales market with this one.
