I didn't expect "soon" to take nearly a month. Sorry.
The timing and length of my absence reminded me of an event at my college clock tower (seen in the background here, and foreground here.) During the Gulf War, a group of students set up vigil inside its base. (At the time, we were of draftable age, should that have been reinstated.) The glass tower is normally up- and down-lit from inside at night with white lights; the lights were made red for the duration of the conflict. Walking by in the evening was an incredibly eerie feeling, as the tower lit most of Jackson Plaza, in front of the library. Red brick building, red brick plaza, red brick tower, red light.
The length of the current conflict (whatever we'll call it later) didn't really dictate the length of display for my "grey page" — it was merely procrastination. Once I went "offline," I had every intent of doing a major look redesign, and just kept putting it off. I realized that some changes I wanted to do, risked messing up older pages. I got to the point where I was pondering no longer blogging, or just starting a new blog. But here I am — and nothing changed in the look at all. Oh, well.
Granted, I am in a much better mood now than I was a month ago. As much as I have been confused about liking Daylight-saving Time in the past (and I still abhor getting up in the dark), the past few evenings have been fantastic: perfectly warm weather, sunny, and just plain nice. I've had an afternoon's drinks at my favorite watering hole, and I've had meals at outdoor cafés twice this week. It's been hard to be in a bad mood — or at least, as bad as a mood as I was a month ago.
