iMac uPdate

For those of you keeping track: The home iMac has been semi-functional since a storm the night of August 2. It works just fine, but generally doesn't want to communicate to the outside world. Last week, I carried it to the Apple Store for repair estimate. Answer: $400-ish. Considering that a brand-spanking new eMac can be had from Apple's refurbished products store for $750 (runs over twice as fast, has everything mine had plus a built-in CD burner, can even use the extra RAM that I bought last year), I have elected not to make the repairs. Instead, I'm letting the poor thing limp along for now, waiting to see if somethin' even better is gonna come along in the next week or so.

The downside to the eMac? It's bigger and heavier than the iMac I currently own. After lugging the machine to and from the Apple Store (inconveniently located halfway between mall entrances), I swore to get something lighter next time.
