How many weeks are in a year? 52, right? Apparently, not this year.
Back in April, someone in our payroll department flipped ahead a few pages on the calendar and discovered 53 pay periods this calendar year. (Something to do with the timing of our paychecks and the holidays.) They had to do a quick recalculation of the weekly payroll taxes, from then forward, to charge us extra, to make up for lost time and the impending extra week.
Now, we see a message that our health-insurance calculations were also based on a 52-week year. Too late to go back and fix now, so there will be no deductions from next week's paycheck; the insurance is fully paid for 2003. What the miscalculations taketh away, they also giveth?
