ZIP-a-dee-doo-dah

I came home tonight to find what appeared to be junk mail from the Post Office. On opening it, I learned they have finally acknowledged the growth of our area, and are issuing a new ZIP code. Come July 1, we are supposed to start using this new ZIP code — presumably the old one will work for a while, since we got 2 weeks' notice.

This is the second time this has happened to me, actually; the town where I grew up split sometime when I was in school. I'd been guessing that this change would happen sooner or later, but that our ZIP would change to that of the little Post Office right by our house — no dice. And I don't know if it's protocol or conicidence, but both times the last digit of my ZIP has changed from a 1 to a 4.

One nice thing: they claim that most bills and magazines and the like will automatically change to the new one. I just have to let friends and family know. Blog-reading friends: you've been notified.

  1. I've been updating magazines, etc with the new Clermont zip code and about half the time I get responses back that it is invalid. Funny, the USPS.com site says it's good.
