The Enemy of My Enemy...

I find myself agreeing with statements and positions put forth by people with whom I don't generally agree:
  1. I'm not in the least bit found of Michael Moore's publicity stunt to garner attention for his lastest film. It was sneaky and underhanded — not that we should expect anything less of him — and given that his target was Disney, guaranteed to work. From what I gather, though, the film paints almost exactly the picture of the President that I already have in my mind. (Too bad people whose minds need to be changed, probably won't bother going. It's become a very "preaching to the choir" event.)
  2. I have never been a fan of Howard Stern, either, but his feeling that he was being extra-scrutinized because he criticzed Bush and the FCC probably isn't just idle paranoia. I may not like his show, and I don't have to listen, but if he does have audience enough to pay the bills... no one forces you to listen, just let him be. (At the same time, though, "freedom of speech" does not require private companies to distribute anything and everything — see Michael Moore above.)His situation highlights the reason why Clear Channel Communications has too much power and control (more on that another day).
  3. The most shocking one to me: Saddam Hussein, yesterday claiming that his trial was "theater" to help Bush "win the election." Maybe it's splitting hairs, but while much of the rest of his rhetoric yesterday was flawed, and while "theater" was not the exclusive reason for the trial (think "reap what you sow"), it proved to me that just about everyone is capable of speaking truth — even in the middle of falsehood.
