More Proof That Stereotypes Inevitably Fail

If you've been doing any culture-watching lately, you might note a trend to stereotype Democrats and other liberals as valueless, intellectual, NPR-listening, cultural snob types. (I even heard mention that appearing intellectual seemed out of style in today's culture!) Conversely, the red-state, red-neck Republican image cultivated as of late should, in theory, go for lowbrow humor and Fox "News"-style coverage.

Consider this, then: why are the cultured, intelligent ones fighting for Howard Stern's right to make daily attempts to offend everyone within the sound of his voice, and struggling to reign in the Federal Censorship Communications Commission, while the supposedly lowbrow crowd wants to curtail prurient entertainment and shudders at advertising that pokes fun at the media circus following last year's Super Bowl halftime show? (Consider this: if the content from the pulled GoDaddy.com ad or the never-shown Bud Light ad were used in a Simpsons episode — on the very same network, Fox — it would have been a ratings hit.)

  1. You are quite right about these subject matters being OK if they were part of a Simpsons episode. They both are very funny and only imply something - you never see nudity or people having sex.
