Getting Caught Up, Falling Further Behind

I never expected it, but I have become one of the gazillions of people who bought the latest Harry Potter over the weekend. Lest you think I got swept up in the TimeWarner-fueled pop culture craze... my book club has been pining for months over the impending release, so I knew it would be next month's read-and-discuss.

Unfortunately, despite all the advance notice, I never managed to read through any of the prior five books, so I'll be opening this one cold (well, lukewarm — we've seen the movies, but everyone knows films never match the books exactly). Maybe, if they decide not to meet in August, there's still a chance I can read at least Book One.

Also this weekend, we went to see Charlie and the Chocolate Factory — on the GIANT screen. (A local movie house chain used to call it "IMAX," but somewhere along the way seems to have lost the rights to use the name.) Loved the movie, although now I want the DVD of that as well as the old Willy Wonka to compare them at my own pace.

Downside to seeing Charlie this weekend: It inadvertently put us further behind in our quest to catch up on movie viewing. We still haven't seen Batman Begins (despite encouragement from friends) nor Fantastic 4 (despite discouragement from friends). If I'm not mistaken, though, Charlie was the last of the summer blockbusters we were awaiting, so I should be good until September's release of The Corpse Bride, right?

  1. I vote FOR 4! Maybe not fantastic, but parts were certainly fab.

  2. You got to go see Batman Begins (I saw it twice) and Fantastic 4 is "hot" well at least Fire boy is :-)
