I used to watch Hummers speed by me on the highway and be filled with a sudden vehement anger. I despised Hummer owners. What gave them the right to a) own so much road, b) drive so fast and c) waste so much fuel doing it?
These days, it's not so much despise as it is a gloating sense of smugness. Anyone with one of those gas guzzlers deserves their 10 mpg in a $3-a-gallon world. When you can start calculating how much of your workday is spent earning the money to pay for the roundtrip to-and-from work, it's certainly time to weigh all your options — starting, methinks, with the mode of transport.
Me, on the other hand... I'm quite happy with my trusty old Saturn, which, if this evening's math is correct, is still getting right around 31 mpg (on bad days, 27; on good, as high as 34 has been seen).
I feel the exact same way. I hope the gas prices are really getting to them. And I'm happy driving my 39 mpg Honda around town.
ReplyDeleteI think gas prices are coming down :-). EP, I'm glad to be back reading your blog :-)
ReplyDeleteSomeone really needs to tell all of the Hummer drivers that we all still know that they have small dicks - regardless of the vehicle they drive...
