Bust A Move

This past weekend was the annual Bear Bust, a gathering of gay men, mostly hirsute, and many generally hefty. It's a fun time out, and I enjoy seeing my favorite watering hole so busy. Of course, this year there was a fear-and-trepidation element leading into the weekend, with the uncertainty of Wilma's path. (In the end, the storm held out until late Sunday, and may have actually added to attendance — with all the South Florida crew taking advantage of the situation to evacuate.)

Of course, for all the manly-man appearance of this gathering, ultimately, the guys who attend are still gay men — and willing to shake a leg on the dance floor. The music got hopping around 10 on Saturday night, and the dancing crowd seemed apprehensive until about midnight... when the DJ threw on an old standby: Whitney Houston's "It's Not Right, But It's Okay." Instantly, a hundred or so butch men break into their best Diva impressions.

I think the only moment that topped that was when the DJ cut over to Miss Clarkson's "Since U Been Gone"... and I had misgivings on whether the wooden deck would hold, as a hundred or so butch men all launched into the bouncing up-and-down apparently required when singing the chorus....
