So, I was sitting at my computer this morning, when I felt the house shudder. It sounded a little like one of those hurricane-force gusts of wind, but then I realized I was shaken a bit. Odd. And the dining room lamp was rattling, and swayed a bit.
Being from the West, I thought, "'quake? Nah, couldn't be." I mean, it felt exactly as the minor tremblors I recall, but this is Florida. We have hurricanes and tornadoes, not earthquakes! So then, I was freaking out: to make that sound, all I could think was, "sinkhole opening under the house."
I have never been so relieved to hear there was an actual earthquake in the Gulf of Mexico — a 6.0 no less! I mean, thank goodness there was no damage … but I'm also relieved I wasn't losing my mind when I felt it this morning.
I was working aorund the house and didn't even notice it!
