- A jaunt to Tampa to see the musical Wicked, which I have been clamoring to see for years. I realized how badly I wanted to see it when I teared up a bit on the first notes of the overture. The show was played incredibly well … and I was pleased to find that I didn't know the entire story just from reading the book twice and wearing the CD through from repeat-play.
- A roadtrip to my favorite nearby getaway spot, Ft. Lauderdale. Stayed — as usual — at the Schubert Resort, where I spent most of my daylight hours lying by the pool (or floating on it), and my nighttime hours in the jacuzzi. Bliss.
- Time out of the sun was mostly spent eating. Humpy's Pizza, a new spot in town with thoroughly hunky owners and customers; 15th Street Fisheries, a great little spot on the Intercoastal Waterway; and Shula's On The Beach, where two quite generous friends took us for a celebratory dinner.
- Nighttime entertainment (on Saturday only; Friday we were reeling from the large dinner at Shula's) included stops at Steel and Scandals, alongside self-poured pool-side adult refreshment. Oh, and making the most of complimentary happy hour at our resort, and at the resort of friends.
- Entertaining moment from Saturday night: standing in the resort's courtyard, listening to the DJ doing a live Internet broadcast, describing the (very non-existent) crowd at the pool with great enthusiasm. "Hi there, up on the balcony!", with the sound of crickets all around.
- We came home Sunday, but continued the relaxing on Monday. Lunch at Japan in Epcot, and a ride on Soarin' (my favorite Epcot attraction, methinks) and the new Nemo ride-through.

Wicked, Weekend FLL-ing
In honor of my recent natal anniversary, we took off from the day-to-day for a little R & R. Things that transpired included:

Hey, I finally found your blog ... thought it appropriate since I'll probably be meeting you next week when Lewis is in town. Didn't even know you were here.
ReplyDeleteI'm not always the brightest bulb in the marquee. :)
(Note....Kevin may not be the brightest bulb, but the cuteness makes us overlook such nonsence...)
ReplyDeleteI already know I'm going to like you! Anybody who gets tears in the opening notes of the overture is "good people." I have done the same. More than once.
Sounds Wonderful Eric! Joe and I were almost down in Ft Lauderdale this past weekend also for the Las Olas Art fair. I was down the weekend before visiting my friends Todd and Mike. I also spent my days in Lake Worth helping my other friend Doug do the Art Fair there! You can see some pics of our work on my blog. It would have been weird running into you both! Joe and I saw Wicked last year and loved it! Tears were all over the place! The only place I went to in Ft Lauderdale that weekend was Flowers and Georgie Alibi in Wilton Manors. We also had dinner at an asian spot which I can not remember the name but the food was wonderful...(as was our cute waiter! yum) My vacation ended yesterday and back to work for both of us... sigh...
ReplyDeleteYour friend Lewis sounds like fun... wish I could come and join you guys at tu tu... ;-(
Hugs.. Chris
If TheHusband wasn't so cranky when we travel, I'd like a trip like this. Of course, he probably says the same thing about me.
ReplyDeleteHey, I found you through Lewis' blog. I'm in Ft. Myers. My bulb is right next to Kevin's. ;)
ReplyDeleteYou certainly went the distance in 5 days! Sounds like an awesome little trip.
Kevin: I tend to fly just a bit under the radar -- no worries.
ReplyDeleteChris, you're certainly more than welcome to join, if you can, I'm sure. Another friend of mine was in Ft. L the weekend you were ... and yet other friends were in Miami while we were there. 'Tis the season, I guess.
MiKell: Oh, there can be plenty of crankiness in the driving part of the trip, to be sure. Nothing quite like 3-1/2 hours trapped in a Jeep on the Turnpike to give cabin fever.
Doug: It was, thanks!! In fact, we almost were in your neighborhood on this trip -- at one point, we contemplated an overnight in Tampa, then leaving from there to Ft. Lauderdale in the morning. But, really, we're only an hour's drive from the Performing Arts Center ...
Hey Eric... Thanks for the invite... I really want to come but after checking the day you are meeting and my schedule I see that I am working that night in the UK with my friend Eeyore till 9 pm. ;-( I would like to meet Lewis and everyone else..Hopefully another time. If things change and I can get off early, I will call you. Hugs...
