This year's AIDS Walk Orlando seems to be getting more traction than I ever recall — at least among people I know. While my Chorus has been asked to sing the national anthem before, this year we've finally committed to having a team of walkers, as well. (It helps the Walk isn't the same weekend as our concert this time.) Then, the "Bunch O' Bloggers" got involved, thanks to ringleader MiKell. Now, I've even been told that finally, my employer has committed to entering a team of walkers (although I still haven't seen them show up on the official list of teams).
Being the PR guy for the Chorus, and a Board member, there was never any doubt in my mind I'd be walking with the Chorus team. It's been interesting-slash-entertaining watching the Bunch O' Bloggers versus House of Adonis game, though. (You can follow all the fun here.) Presuming House of Adonis is, actually, who we think they are, this was a game of the bloggers versus the go-go dancers — and I couldn't get this Revenge of the Nerds image out of my mind. (Not to say some bloggers couldn't get away with playing on both teams. Just sayin'.)
The point of all this rambling? A bunch of people are planning on being in this year's AIDS Walk Orlando. I'm one of 'em. The point of the walk is fundraising for Hope & Help, so walkers need to gather donations. Donate to the Bunch O' Bloggers team, donate to the Orlando Gay Chorus team, donate to my name specifically if you choose. But it's a worthwhile cause, so whatever you do … donate.
I was able to get some of the Poobah's to donate this year. I cant wait for MiKell to post the $$.
ReplyDeleteHe is doing quite a good job as the ring-leader of this operation!
I've posted it, Sorted. Unfortunately, checks take a few days to clear.
ReplyDeleteThanks for mentioning this, Eric. I think the Chorus finally has a team registered, now. I'll try not to take any umbridge to the "nerds" reference. It could have been worse, you could have gone with "Cocoon".
Oh, but I always mean "nerds" in the most humble, loving way imaginable!
ReplyDeleteBesides, I just can't seem to match my stereotype of an average "House of Adonis" participant with the kind of blogging eloquence I've come to expect of the Bunch O'.
Great! I leave Orlando and now the AIDS Walk get's bigger...........Congrats! Donation is on it's way. :-) (via the USPS)
