R.I.P. 500

The news has come to me through email (home AND work), via TXT message and by phone call: The Full Moon Saloon is no more. Apparently closed after business Sunday night, and cleaned out yesterday. Nothing in the local news yet, but such is the speed of modern communications, and the general lack of concern over this hole-in-the-wall bar … which was one of my happy places 'round here.

Still waiting to hear what the final straw was (after all, attendance had declined for years), and a small part yet hopes we'll hear a "rumors of our death are greatly exaggerated" message. Many happy Sunday afternoons (and sundry other evenings) spent in the place — and especially as of late, since its next-door neighbor decided to raise drink prices higher than Disney's. But, yet another chapter added to this story (not to mention the recent closure of the Suncoast Resort over in St. Pete).

  1. The Parliament House has a sign near the Moon to direct people to their back bar "P's Filling Station". My partner and I went to check it out.
They have apparently renamed and cursorily redecorated the sleezy country back bar at the P-house. Inside "P's" was a mock tombstone that said "RIP Full Moon Saloon", dashing any hopes that P-house bought it with the intent to reopen it. There is a sign that they are collecting license plates to decorate the walls. So they are trying to cultivate from scratch what the the Moon had built organically over decades and redirect the bears and cowboys to their small, slummy hole-in-the-wall. I hope they don't just transfer their collective loyalty that easily.
This is a sad day... :(

  2. That's too bad. Like you said, hopefully the P will be building something more than just a slummy HITW to replace it.

  4. I heard about it at parade the other day and someone who knows someone who works there said the owner gave the whole staff a few days off so that they could work on the place. 3 or 4 days later when they went back the place was closed and all phone numbers were disconnected! Everyone lost their jobs and they are not sure why or what happened.

Sorry for your loss... sniff sniff..

    Hugs.. C

  5. Lava, The Full Moon, and at any moment Studz/Paradise. They all missed or are missing the boat. WE NEED A SPORTS BAR IN ORLANDO DAMMIT AND THESE SORRY ASS PLACES WOULD HAVE BEEN GRANTED LIFE AFTER DEATH IF THEY WOULD GET WITH IT! i'm back.
