Cirque du Miami
Saturday, Dan, Bj and I went to Miami for the day, to see Quidam, one of the touring shows of Cirque du Soleil. Being quite a Cirque fan myself, I have been waiting for this show to come back within striking distance.
Naturally, it rained almost all the way there, and POURED during the show, and rained more on the way home. Didn't make the 4-hour drive each way any easier, and I'm glad it was Dan driving and not me. We got to Miami with just enough time to spare for a nice cruise up-and-down of South Beach, but the weather precluded dining there. Of note: The Palace (at 12th and Ocean) appears to no longer be itself—the colors are different, and the bar was closed and its windows papered over.
The show, of course, is every bit as wonderful as I would have hoped. They have added the "Banquine" routine shown in the Cirque film, Journey of Man, which I saw in IMAX-3D in Seattle last year, and that routine is even more impressive in person than on screen. The only minor disappointment, in my opinion, revolved around my favorite track from the album, "Let Me Fall." On the CD it is in English, and on the DVD it is in whatever European language native to the performance space. For Miami, they sang it in Spanish—understandable, but I would have preferred the English.
