Here We Go Again

Today, I got the news. Or at least, part of it. My redeployment is ending—sorta. The DU wants me back part-time, and I will fill out my work week staying with Communications. So I'll spend Tuesdays and Thursdays at Team Disney, Wednesdays and Fridays at Disney U., and Mondays at where ever I think I have the most work waiting.

I've really grown to enjoy Communications, and was really hoping it would become a permanent gig. How do I begin to describe the change back? Let's see... they don't know who I'll report to at DU yet. My computer (with the fabulous 19-inch monitor) was given away. My phone was moved to a different cube, and I can't find it.

I'll be working on redesigning a class that I redesigned in fall of 2000. It took me 3 months last time with no other projects. This time I'm to do it on 2 days a week, alongside another new project that had already come my way at Team Disney, and we turned away because it was more work than I could handle. Ironic, no?

It gets better. Even though we didn't have to, my temporary-leader and I did a development plan (a "PDP"), the thing that determines next year's potential raise (which, of course, didn't happen this year). We set up a mid-year check-in for July. Surprise, someone decided those should be in May. The area that pays me — DU — hasn't written one for me, so I guess now I'll have two. The real one, from the people who pay me, but for whom I work 2 days of 5, and the one I've been following, the one that encompasses most of my actual work week.

From my perspective, I'm going to end up doing two full-time jobs (or maybe one-and-a-half) in a 40-hour work week. The only thing that keeps it from being a completely untenable situation is that this gives me the permission to say "no" more often and set my own parameters. For now.
