I suppose some glitches are to be expected when moving between work locations.
I was assured that the request had been put in to have my network ID moved. When I'd talked to the PC Support folks, though, they didn't have record of the request. Fine. Yesterday, I put in my own request: move the ID, and install the software on the new work PC to allow me to log in to the network here. (I would have thought they would have done that installation when they installed the PC. I must be expecting too much.)
Well, since they can move the network ID — and all my files stored on the network — from their office 10 miles away, they did. This morning. While I was working. I lost email access for a while, until I figured out what was going on and fixed that part myself. Then I got the email that said my network ID had been moved, and how to log in using the software that hasn't been installed yet. So my files are securely stored on a server I can't get to, until they send someone over to work on my PC.
Maybe it's just me, but it would have been nice if they had installed the login software first. So, I had to call and change the "request for service" ticket into an "incident" ticket (their terminology). Right now, I am just sitting here spinning my wheels, waiting for the IT service guy to come out.
Update, 10:18a: I was sexist: IT Female Cast Member came out and fixed it. (Although IT Male Cast Member just stopped by because he didn't know he'd been beaten to the punch). Fixed. Although it has taken me the last 30 minutes to get all my passwords synchronized again. Get this: She told me that they'll be updating the servers in our building in the next couple of weeks, and we won't need the software she installed anymore. Timing is, apparently, everything.
