Did I say "sunny" previously? OK, technically sunny, but that does not mean "warm." The two pairs of shorts I packed will return to Florida unworn. In fact, I've quite been freezing, but that is mainly due to my father's insistence on letting the house fall to 65° at night.
After two days here, I remember that this town is "nice to visit, but I wouldn't want to live here." Portland or Seattle, I could do. Not Medford. I was tempted briefly to wax poetic about the presence of jet-vapor trails overhead. (Medford lies on the air route between Seattle and Portland, and San Francisco and Los Angeles.) All those planes that fly over and don't stop. It's a sky-feature I was used to growing up, and realized today I don't see in Orlando, for a variety of reasons, I'm sure.
We visited the Harry & David Country Store today (they are Medford-based), but I bought nothing, because the same products are in every H&D store I've been in (including 2 in Orlando).
Tomorrow, I drive up the Oregon coast to an indeterminate location. I didn't want to commit to a specific stopping-place for the evening. I hope that's being spontaneous, and not a sign of being afraid to commit. At least that will be my story, and I'll stick to it.
