Turn of Phrase

I was reading an article about TV commercials during the Oscars (drawn in comparsion to the Super Bowl), and came across this paragraph:
Although ABC grants an occasional wish to a star ... the network gives no one but the Academy such power over its advertising....

Granting a wish TO a star, instead of wishing ON a star? I wonder if the CNN writer who composed realized the play on words — or even, by subtle reference to the song, "When You Wish Upon A Star," touching on Disney's ownership of ABC?

Or am I just reading too much into it?
