That's a spicy meatball... no, wait...

Tuesday's cultural outing: the national tour of Mamma Mia!, the ABBA musical. You know going in that the plot has to be paper-thin (the goal being to stretch as many ABBA tunes together into something resembling a plot), and so with that expectation, this was one of the most fun, light-hearted, pure-fluff evenings I've had in a long time. Random evening memories:
  • Bj on one side, Dan on the other, and in close proximity, someone who marinated in obnoxious perfume.
  • A Known Male Escort in attendance with an older gentleman.
  • Much-older-than-me people waving their arms in the air when led by the chorus during "Super Trouper."
  • The coming-out moment for the gay character (which we saw coming from the first time he talked about his "other half"), which produced a laugh from part of the audience, and cheers from others.
  • The chorus line of boys in scuba gear, preceeded by same boys half out of their wetsuits. Know Thy Audience.
  • The encore-slash-concert. Do not, whatever you do, leave before the house lights come up.
The evening was well worth the pain of getting up for work on Wednesday. If you have a chance, go see the show.
