Sod Off

If you've never driven in Florida, you might be surprised to see (as I was) that there is virtually no shoulder on any given highway — the grass grows right up to the edge of the road, usually less than a car's-width from the lanes. This is apparently accomplished by re-sodding these areas regularly. Even if the grass looks fine, you can count on it being ripped up and replaced at least every couple of years or so.

As of late, US 192 has been getting the re-sodding treatment. (Perfectly timed, of course, since they are just about to widen the highway from four lanes to six, so they can rip up that new sod.) They were out this morning in full force, with three flatbed semi trucks loaded with sod, and a whole crew doing the laying. And where do you think they parked the trucks?

Give yourself two "cynic" points if you guessed they parked on the sod they'd already laid. You got it: the trucks were crushing the newly laid sod, grinding it into mud.
