One Of The Darker Ones

So, you* spend part of the weekend contemplating, and you realize that the lowest common denominator in everything you don't like about your life is, well, you.

Drinking to numb, dancing to forget, turning up the music to drown the noise... none of these are particularly effective long-term tools.

Since there isn't really any separating you from yourself — at least, not in ways aligned with the you that you are — you'd better get used to it and deal.

And then you think, maybe this is all anyone else is doing. All those million other shmucks out there are just coping, too, and some are just putting on braver faces than you. They don't have it together, they don't have it better, they are just better at managing through the day-to-day crap that wears you down. Or, maybe, you think, they're just faking it better.

And you're probably right.
