False Alarm

Most years, a message circulates at work on Christmas Eve that we can go home, usually around 2:00.

This year, we're off Christmas Eve, since Christmas Day falls on a Saturday. I didn't really have much hope we'd be let go early today. Still, when the MESSAGE light on my phone turned on without the phone ringing — usually indicating a forwarded voicemail message — I thought, "cool, we're done!"

It was a forwarded message, and it was from our division's Senior VP. It contained holiday well-wishes and the like... but no offer of early release. Oh, well — the week is short already.
